Police Officer and Unidentified Man Overcome by CO Poisoning in Townhome
Portage, WI

It was a close call for an unidentified man and a police officer when police responded to a townhouse Sunday around 4:00 p.m. to investigate a report of a 40-year old male experiencing dizziness and slurring his words.

According to local news reports, shortly after first responders arrived on-scene they found the man unresponsive, and then their carbon monoxide monitors begin to alarm. According to first responders, the officer who had assisted the man in evacuating the building was also affected by CO poisoning. Both were taken to a local hospital for evaluation. The police officer was later released, but there’s been no word on the condition of the man.

As a precaution, some residents in the townhouse complex were evacuated for a couple hours to allow the carbon monoxide to dissipate. The source of the carbon monoxide remains under investigation.

The report did not mention the presence of CO detectors in the home.
