Why Choose Between a CO Alarm and a Low-Level Monitor?
Your home's carbon monoxide alarm serves an important purpose: warning you when CO exposure meets its programmed alarm conditions. But it doesn't necessarily tell you when smaller amounts of carbon monoxide are present.
The Defender CA6150 + LL6270 Carbon Monoxide Protection Kit gives you both capabilities in one package.
The CA6150 provides UL-listed residential alarm protection, while the LL6270 automatically displays carbon monoxide beginning at 5 parts per million (ppm) and provides additional visual and audible warnings at specified low-level thresholds.
Two separate devices. Two different functions. More information about the carbon monoxide in your home.
Both monitors operate independently, making this kit a practical choice for homeowners who want standard CO alarm protection alongside supplemental low-level monitoring.
What Makes This Defender Kit Different?
Most residential carbon monoxide alarms are designed to warn when CO concentrations and exposure durations meet established alarm-response requirements. They are not intended to provide continuous information about very low CO concentrations.
The Defender combination kit addresses two different needs: a listed residential alarm for conventional CO protection and a supplemental monitor for additional awareness of lower-level CO exposure.
- Residential alarm protection: The CA6150 is listed to ANSI/UL 2034 for residential carbon monoxide alarms.
- Automatic CO readings from 5 ppm: The LL6270 displays detected carbon monoxide without requiring a button press.
- Additional low-level warnings: The LL6270 provides a visual warning beginning at 9 ppm and an audible warning beginning at 15 ppm, subject to the manufacturer's response times.
- Digital information from both devices: Each includes a display and CO exposure memory functions.
- No routine battery changes: Both use factory-sealed lithium batteries.
- Two complementary devices: Use the CA6150 for listed residential alarm protection and the LL6270 for supplemental low-level monitoring.
Meet the Two Defender Monitors
Defender CA6150 — Residential Carbon Monoxide Alarm
The CA6150 is designed for homeowners who want a residential CO alarm with a digital display and long-life sealed batteries.
Its display button allows you to check detected CO concentrations beginning at 10 ppm. The alarm also records peak CO information and operates using factory-sealed lithium batteries designed for ten years of service.
The CA6150 is UL 2034 listed and follows residential alarm-response requirements based on both CO concentration and exposure duration.
Defender LL6270 — Supplemental Low-Level CO Monitor
The LL6270 provides a different kind of information. It automatically displays detected CO beginning at 5 ppm, helping you recognize lower concentrations that may not activate a conventional household alarm.
Its red visual warning begins at 9 ppm and its audible warning begins at 15 ppm, with activation times depending on the concentration and duration of exposure.
The LL6270 is intended as a supplemental low-level monitor. It is not UL listed as a residential carbon monoxide alarm and does not replace required residential CO alarms.
How Do the CA6150 and LL6270 Compare?
| Feature | CA6150 | LL6270 |
|---|---|---|
| Primary purpose | Residential CO alarm | Supplemental low-level CO monitor |
| Lowest displayed CO | 10 ppm with button press | 5 ppm automatically |
| Automatic visual warning | Residential alarm criteria | Beginning at 9 ppm |
| Low-level audible warning | No automatic alarm at 10 ppm | Beginning at 15 ppm |
| Residential UL listing | UL 2034 listed | Not UL listed |
| Power | Sealed lithium batteries | Sealed lithium batteries |
| Limited warranty | 10 years | 3 years |
Important: The LL6270 displays CO starting at 5 ppm but does not sound an alarm at that concentration. Its warning thresholds and response times are separate from its display threshold.
Who Should Consider This Kit?
This kit is designed for homeowners who want more information about carbon monoxide than a conventional alarm alone provides.
It may be particularly useful in homes with fuel-burning furnaces, fireplaces, water heaters, or other combustion appliances, as well as households interested in monitoring lower concentrations of carbon monoxide.
Both devices are intended for indoor residential environments within their specified operating conditions. They are not designed for vehicles, RVs, or unconditioned spaces.
Where Should the Two Devices Be Installed?
Install the CA6150 according to Defender's instructions and applicable local requirements for residential CO alarms.
Install the LL6270 in a suitable indoor location where additional low-level monitoring is desired, following its separate owner's manual.
The devices operate independently. They do not communicate with one another and do not provide wired or wireless interconnection.
Some jurisdictions require hardwired or interconnected CO alarms. Confirm local requirements before selecting a residential alarm installation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why would I need two carbon monoxide detectors?
The CA6150 provides listed residential CO alarm protection, while the LL6270 offers additional low-level readings and warnings. They perform different functions and can complement one another.
Does the LL6270 alarm at 5 ppm?
No. It automatically displays detected CO beginning at 5 ppm. Its visual warning begins at 9 ppm and its audible warning begins at 15 ppm, subject to response times.
Are both devices UL listed?
No. The CA6150 is UL 2034 listed as a residential CO alarm. The LL6270 is a supplemental low-level monitor and is not UL listed.
Are the two devices interconnected?
No. Each device operates independently with its own sensor, display, battery, and warning functions.
Do both devices last ten years?
No. The CA6150 is designed for a ten-year service life and has a ten-year limited warranty. The LL6270 has a three-year limited warranty. Defender identifies an expected service life of approximately five years for the LL6270, but recommends replacement every three years to maintain display accuracy as the sensor ages. Follow the manufacturer's replacement instructions.
Can I use this kit in an RV or motorhome?
No. These models are not designed for vehicles or unconditioned spaces. Select CO detection equipment approved for the intended environment.
Does the kit detect smoke or natural gas?
No. Both devices detect carbon monoxide only. They do not replace smoke alarms or combustible-gas detectors.
How many kits do I need for my home?
The appropriate number depends on your home's layout, existing alarm coverage, and local requirements. Follow applicable residential CO alarm placement requirements and Defender's instructions for supplemental low-level monitoring.
Safety reminder: Never assume an area is safe simply because a carbon monoxide alarm is silent. If an alarm activates or CO exposure is suspected, follow the manufacturer's emergency instructions and seek appropriate assistance.
