A pocket-size carbon monoxide monitor for your cockpit. The Sensorcon AV8 Inspector shows the CO level in your cabin as a live number and sounds a loud alarm at 35 ppm. That gives you time to shut off cabin heat and get fresh air while you're still thinking clearly.

Built for Owner-Pilots, Renters, and Student Pilots

Carbon monoxide in a small airplane usually comes from one place: a cracked muffler feeding exhaust into the cabin heater. You can't smell it. The first signs feel like ordinary fatigue. The AV8 Inspector gives you an objective number to check during every flight, so you aren't left judging how you feel.

A Clean Annual Isn't a Guarantee

In November 2018, a Piper Dakota went down near Guthrie Center, Iowa, killing all four people aboard. The airplane had finished its annual inspection six days earlier, and the mechanic had checked the mufflers. Investigators later found a 2.75-inch crack in the exhaust muffler that let exhaust into the cabin through the heat system. A student pilot on board radioed that the pilot was having a heart attack. Autopsies instead found carbon monoxide levels high enough to cause confusion and loss of consciousness. The airplane had no CO detector of any kind.

Why Pilots Choose the AV8 Inspector

  • Live ppm readout: Know the exact CO level at a glance, not just whether an alarm is going off.
  • Early warning at 35 ppm: Low and high alarms at 35 and 200 ppm, with a flashing light and an 80-85 dB buzzer.
  • Fast response: Reaches 90% of a reading in under 20 seconds.
  • Mount it or carry it: Removable panel mount, steel clip, and lanyard loop. Easy to move between airplanes.
  • Long battery life: More than 2 years on one CR123A battery.
  • Tough enough for the flight bag: Water- and shock-resistant, and weighs 4 oz.
  • 2-year warranty from Sensorcon.

Fly with a noise-canceling headset? The AV8 Inspector Pro adds a vibrating alarm you'll feel even if you can't hear the buzzer.

Questions Pilots Ask

Is this better than a stick-on CO spot card?

Yes. Spot cards change color slowly, make no sound, and are hard to read at night. The AV8 gives a live number and an alarm that gets your attention.

Can I use my home CO alarm in the plane instead?

Home alarms are designed to ignore low levels to avoid false alarms. Some take hours to sound at 70 ppm. The AV8 shows every reading and alarms at 35 ppm.

Is this a residential CO alarm?

No. The AV8 is a portable monitor for aircraft and other vehicles. It doesn't replace the UL 2034 alarms in your home.
